The topic of the course was Effective Questioning. We watched three videos about asking questions during listening tasks, practising wh-questions using the information in gap activities and ICQ. Joan Kang Shin told us about the tips for supporting students by asking questions before enjoying listening activities. The second video of Woomee Kim was about how to energize our English class. Wh-questions are useful for communication. The third video was about ICQs. When we use ICQs we would like to make sure that our learners understood our instructions clearly.
Reflection.
I used to display referential questions in my lesson in the 6th form. The theme of the lesson was ''Save the water!''.Exercise2b.Read and answer the questions. In the beginning, I gave the instruction, Please, pupils! Listen to me attentively! Read the text. I give you 5 minutes for reading. After reading I asked them the following questions. What is the topic about? What rivers did you read about? What are the names of the rivers? Did the rivers become smaller or bigger? For what did people use their water? They are display questions. Some of my pupils asked me:''What can we do to stop wasting water?''One pupil answered this question:''We should save the water.''The next pupil asked:''What can we do to stop deserts?''Pupil2 answered:''Every year we should plant many trees at home, at school, along the rivers, everywhere.''Pupil3 asked:''There are a lot of water in the seas, oceans, can we drink this water?''.Pupil4 answered:''No, the water in the seas and oceans is salty.''These questions are Referential questions. These questions made my students think and develop their thinking abilities. These strategies of asking display and referential questions were very useful in checking their knowledge.
