How does joining work?

Want to join us here in A Starlit Horizon?

As of right now, ASH is in a open Beta while we test out certain mechanics and finish polishing up the group.

Previously, we were only open once every season or so, but we are open indefinitely for new applications, and will only close as needed, to allow for slower application rush and drip feed new life into the group rather than all at once!

Please be advised that this group may have content unsuitable for children, and will only allow members who are 18 and older.

While we do have an age limit, we do not allow sex or sexual themes in this roleplay.

How does joining work?

So you've seen the group is open and you want to join!

The detailed instructions on how to apply with your character are on our Discord, but it’ll look something like this:

You’ll join the Discord, get a feel for the community.
[Optional] There may be other people looking to plot pre-group stuff - feel free to get involved!
[Optional] Ask questions and get design or character reviews from pack leaders and staff.
[Optional] Take a look at any listed player adoptions, or see what pack leaders are looking for (there may be certain roles available to audition for).
Once you’re done creating your character, you’ll submit it via a ticket on our Discord proper.

After you’ve submitted your character, staff and pack leaders will review your application and either accept your application, or have notes on things that may need changing.

NOTE: If you have a disability that does not allow you to draw, or you don’t have a way to digitize your art and put it on our applications, you can message staff and we’ll help you out! We want to make sure you have a place at our table too.

Applications may take some time to review depending on who’s available at a given time, so please allow up to two weeks (unless we message you otherwise) for an initial response! This does not include any revisions and other stuff - so just hang tight, it might take a sec!

A note on Outlanders:

You MAY apply for an Outlander character as your first, HOWEVER, this is with the stipulation that this makes plotting and interactions much more complicated. We definitely do not recommend this for people who may have a hard time reaching out to pack leaders or other players, or may not have the drive to have a more ‘self’ driven plot.

Additionally, if we get too big of an influx of Outlanders, we may choose to close them for applications.

Please keep in mind that A Starlit Horizon is still in BETA - if you choose to apply, just remember that there may be rules that shift during your time in the group, and mechanics and plotting methods that are tested by members, pack leaders and staff alike.

The website is set up to help you navigate linearly through what you need to know before joining, while making your character, and what things might look like if your character is accepted into ASH, so we'll take you through everything you need in the next few pages.

Please be sure to be familiar with our activity requirements, as they may be too much for some players!

FAQs

Can I submit more than one character during the same opening? And how many character slots do I start with?

As of right now, we only allow one application during openings!

You start with two free character slots, but as a new member you must wait a season (3 months) to bring in a new character. The exceptions to this are puppy tryouts for litters, or a character audition of an established player.

Is there a skill level requirement to join?

ASH does not have an art skill level requirement, but we do ask that you are able to legibly write!
If you're looking for examples, please take a look at the literature or roleplays already posted to the deviantART galleries!

I submitted my Google form but realized I did something wrong on it; what do I do?

Please note the group and let us know, and then resubmit your application.

I'm not sure if my character application is missing anything, or if my character design is within guidelines; can I note the group for a review?

You can!

But, while staff and pack leaders can look over your application and help fix things, please remember that they may be busy and might not be able to respond in a timely manner, especially if many hopeful applicants require assistance.

Additionally, just because your application receives the all clear from staff and leaders, this does not mean you are guaranteed a spot in the group - it simply means you are within guidelines.

Am I able to swap packs later on?

Yes! However, we ask that you have an in character explanation for them leaving their original pack, and you must pay a transfer fee and adhere to the transfer rules listed in the Star Shop.

What is the 'Per Player' rule?

As the name might imply, this is just a rule that means that there are a few attributes that are limited throughout your character roster, but don't affect other players.

For instance, heterochromia, heights on the extreme ends of the spectrum, and mutations, are all limited within your character pool. This way, every player (with a few exceptions) has the opportunity to have a character with a certain mutation or varied body type.

Can my character come in with 'mutations' or 'Per Player' attributes?

Yes! Your character can have one Tier 1 'mutation' (folded ear, blind, etc - detailed on the purchases page) and either heterochromia/bicolour eyes OR oversized/undersized, which are free but restricted with the Per Player rule.

Can my character be pack born despite coming into the group later?

Potentially! This will be up to pack leader - some may want outsiders specifically, or packborn only, or a mix of both! Packborn wolves will simply be treated as though they've been there all along.

Details will be listed in the opening journals!

Can I bring a character in with an accessory?

Yes! You may have one small accessory (a feather, flower, fang earring or leaf) on your character upon entry.

If your wolf is pack born, these must be in line with your pack specific accessories.

Can my first character be a puppy?

Unless your character has an adult caretaker played by another member, we do not allow puppies as entry characters otherwise.

The youngest your character can be upon entry is an Adolescent without a player character caretaker.

Can I join with an Outlander?

Yes; but you must have two active pack wolves to create a second Outlander character!
