Food, fun, friends, and interesting presentations made the Northeast District meetings a success.
Day One - Bonton Farms, Dallas, TXThe mission statement for Bonton Farms is “We transform lives by disrupting systems of inequity, laying a foundation where change yieldshealth, wholeness and opportunity as the norm.” (Bonton Farms website, 2023)
The farm is named for the neighborhood where it is located. Bonton Farms was developed to address the food desert and health issues that were found in this south Dallas neighborhood. Over the past 10 + years the farm has worked to address other needs of the Bonton community. The main farm has moved to Seagoville, Texas. The south Dallas location includes the Farmers Market,  Market Café, and Coffee House.  Arecently opened meeting space was the location of the meeting. Two speakers from the farm’s Ambassador Program shared information about the area and plans. As a special treat, Elena Doerrie, AAFCS TX Executive Director, shared information about honey and the group participated in a honey tasting. The North Texas Business Section held a short meeting at the end of the day.
Day Two - Say Yes To FCS, Virtual GatheringA virtual meeting around the topic of Saying Yes to FCS provided participants with additional resources to help spread the word about FCS. Dr. Cindy Miller shared information about the Advocacy Live binder and the Critical Science Modules. Elena Doerrie shared information that can be found on the AAFCS website. Angela McCorkle shared information about what was happening in Extension.
