The Geography department is established in the year 1989. Presently, the college offers Three Year Integrated Bachelor of Arts programme with Geography and Hindi or Geography and English subjects along with the other options. The geography department also runs various Certificate Courses related to Geo-Spatial Technology in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) through e-learning portal. These courses are conducted through video conferencing. On an average every year around 15 students complete the course on 'Basics of Remote Sensing, Geographical Information System (GIS) and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)' .
The department has expertise in the area of Geo-Spatial Technology and G-Governance. The department provides consultancy for land-parcel mapping and GIS mapping for micro level planning. In this regard Dr. Sardar Patil, Head, Department of Geography has provided consultancy services to Grampanchayat of Village Panutre, Taluka-Panhala, Dist-Kolhapur for Cadastral Mapping of the village.
The department promotes to the students for active participation in research activities. On an average six Students of geography department regularly present research projects in the Avishkar research project presentation competition.
As a social responsibility the Department of Geography creates awareness among the local community regarding solid waste management and other environmental issues through cycle club. Plastic Free Devrukh' is an initiative of the department in collaboration with Devrukh Nagarpanchyat. The campaigning is at three stages, i.e. Collection and Classification; Processing; and Social Awareness & Community Participation.
