Being one of the leading academic departments of the college, the department is trying to focus on the syllabus which promotes skill development and research. The faculty of the home department is a recognized teacher of the University of Mumbai for the research degrees like M. Phil. and Ph. D.
The department is planning to start the post PG courses like M. Phil. and Ph. D. in the years to come after getting the due recognition to the research center in the subject.
Presently, two candidates have been enrolled for the Ph. D. degree in the Department of Geography, University of Mumbai, under the guidance of Dr. Sardar Patil.

Syllabus
Syllabus for the Ph. D. Entrance Test (PET) Examination:
The candidate needs to take a review of the entire syllabus of the PG Programme in Geography. The focus of the PET examination relies on research methodology in Geography and Fundamental Concepts in various branches of geography. The examination is MCQ type and the candidate needs to secure at least 40 % marks in the said examination. Afterward, the candidate can be allotted a research guide based on his/ her performance in the interview and the availability of the seats. Presently, all these processes are carried out through a centralized system in the Department of Geography, University of Mumbai. The candidates who wish to carry out research for the award of Degree of Ph. D. / M. Phil may apply to the University of Mumbai, as and when notifications are issued by the University.
Syllabus of the M. Phil. and/or Pre Ph. D. Programme
The candidates seeking admission to the M. Phil. or Ph. D. need to undergo the course work based on their specialization they need to select an optional paper from the options available with the University of Mumbai.
