Class overview

Welcome to Multimedia!

In this class you will learn and explore the fundamentals of design thinking, digital design including 2D (graphic design), 3D creations using computer aided design programs (CAD), mixed media, web design, vector programs that include the use of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop along with other Adobe programs. 3D printing, project-based creations in a creative environment will also be examined. Throughout the course, you will create individual projects as well as be put into design groups to complete some of the projects.

The five phases of design thinking will be adapted within each project. From the empathize phase to the testing phase of design, students will practice the process of design thinking that is iterative, flexible and focused on collaboration between designers and users. The emphasis on bringing ideas to life based on how real users think, feel and behave will be observed.

Individual creativity in design is an important element in this class. There will also be collaboration projects that will be just as important in the multimedia class. Each project will be introduced alongside important topics, such as design thinking and systems integration, that you will inevitably become more familiar with as you complete the projects. You will have the opportunity to manufacture your designs and present your design choices to the class after each project is completed.

Certain projects will be evaluated and design groups will be rewarded points based on the application of concepts, ingenuity, effort, and team collaboration. At the end of the course if all teams collectively achieve enough points you will all be rewarded. Throughout the design process the teacher will be here to guide you and give you advice so there is no need to worry.
