What is texture? Is it something that you see, or feel? Is it rough, smooth, bumpy, slick? Think about these materials - Metal, wood, plastic, scales on fish, turtle shell, fur, hair.

These are all things we can FEEL. When it comes to texture and how we SEE them, we have a sense of how it FEELS, therefore, we can draw it to make it look how it feels. I can draw a wooden plank or bricks with line and value. When I add more lines and value to create the reproduction of the wooden plank or bricks, I am adding texture. This is called IMPLIED texture because it is visual.

The search for textures is on! Time to look for textures. You can use the internet or search around your house for textures.

Take photos of them, use the photos for your reference images. You will need TEN (10) different textures total. Recreate the textures you collected and sketch them on in the boxes provided in the document below. You will use line and value for your texture drawings.

Option 1 (if you DO NOT have a printer): Get a new page/ new paper. Label it "Textures", and draw in 10 boxes, each about 1 inch x 1 inch. Two rows, five columns. The dimensions should be around 5” - 6” wide and 1” height of the squares.

Find at least EIGHT (8) textures that you can put your paper over, rub with crayon or a pencil. After you have done this, add the details of value and texture. Submit the same way you did for the first two options.
