Forms are objects that have 3 dimensions to them - height, width, and length. Geometric forms and organic forms are usually the main forms when represented in art. Geometric are usually man-made, this is similar to what we learned when we studied the element of art, shape. What are the geometric forms? (Sphere, Cone, Cylinder, Cube). Do organic forms have specific names? Organic forms are more natural.

It is up to the artist and designer to "create the illusion of form."

Get a few pieces of paper for this assignment to draw the forms listed below. Do not be afraid to draw big. I will do a quick demonstration on how to create form and value.
> Draw the exercises mentioned in the video. (mark 2:42 - 3:20) :
Draw a CUBE and label the *highlight, *midtone, *core shadow, and *cast shadow.
Draw a PYRAMID and label the same thing as you did with the cube from #1. ^
Draw a SPHERE and label the *highlight, *midtone, *core shadow, *cast shadow, and *reflected highlight.
> For drawings 4 - 6, draw the forms with their labels - highlight, midtone, core shadow, cast shadow, and reflected highlight.
Draw a CYLINDER
Draw a CONE
Draw an ORGANIC form
Now that you have knowledge about form and a bit of knowledge how to create value, choose 3 objects to draw that are of similar forms from what you just practiced. Stick to using just black and white for now. This is a similar assignment from what we did with drawing objects using modified contour and cross contour lines. Now you will be able to add value along with details.
For example, you can draw a basketball, softball, or tennis ball that represent a SPHERE.
A Rubix cube, cardboard box, or speaker that is in the form of a CUBE.
A CYLINDER can be a drawn to represent the object such as a tall glass.
You get the picture. Now go and practice creating forms and adding details and value to them. Have fun!
