Think globally – Act locally

Activities culminated in the meeting held in France

Erasmus+ KA2 Arts for Future

2020-1-DE03-KA229-077193

Lycée polyvalent Caucadis, Vitrolles, France

Short-term learning, teaching and training activity,

16th - 20th January 2023

As an icebreaking activity, the partners presented themselves with a "chinese-portrait".

This activity was the opportunity to know each other.

As another icebreaking activity, the French team presented France and the PACA region. Partners tested their knowledge with a Kahoot quiz.

With this activity, students and teachers were able to understand et compare historical, cultural and lifestyle differences of the host country.

A workshop on recycling fabrics was the main activity of the meeting, the purpose was to give a second life to old chairs promoting sustainable development.

Before to the mobility, each partner team collected emblematic fabrics from their country, and a patch symbolizing the country, for the workshop. The French team provided other fabrics to complete this collection.

The French team first presented the work of Franz West: Test, 1994, which the partners would discover during the visit of the exhibition "The Impermanent Display" at the Tour Luma in Arles the following Wednesday.

Then the French delegation explained the process to follow so that each country could upcycle its chair. Afterwards, each country was able to work on its own chair.

Through this activity, which gives a second life to old objects, we wanted to make young people aware of the importance of waste and its possible reuse.

A cooking workshop included partners' contributions regarding eco-friendly recipes to promote climate-related eating habits.

Before the mobility, each partner sent contributions to the French team. An e-booklet was made with these contributions.

The cooking workshop aimed to prepare dishes based on local and seasonal products, all grown within a radius of 20 km from the school. Céline BARRA, a farmer living and working in a protected area in Vitrolles, supervised this workshop. The partners who provided the products necessary for elaborating the “eco-friendly  recipes" were the Ferme du Vallon in Velaux, the Collet Blanc for the olive oil, the Fournil du Puisatier for the bread, Biocoop for the basic ingredients.

This activity was an opportunity to raise awareness among young Europeans about climate-related eating habits. The recipes are published in the ebooklet “More than 50 Tips and tricks” made by the Croatian team.

Pupils have created a tutorial on one of the "zero waste and eco-friendly" recipes, which will be visible on the project's YouTube channel. This workshop's main objective was to change the habits of young people for a more sustainable nutrition. At noon, we all enjoyed this environmentally friendly meal.

An escape game at the Vitrolles media library to allowed an intuitive visit to this cultural building while solving questions related to "climate change", "better eating", and "less waste" in the agricultural sector.

The students were divided into international groups for the escape game. The partnership with the media library of the city of Vitrolles allowed the dissemination and visibility of our project beyond the school.

The librarian team had prepared a welcome in the image of "Think globally - Act locally" mobility, displaying the countries' flags and the A4F and Erasmus+ logos while enriching it with books on the participating countries and sustainable development. This fun and informative experience helped to raise the awareness of our young Europeans to these issues that impact our daily lives. During this activity, students used IT technologies and improved their knowledges on the matter.

Visit of LUMA Arles, art museum and research laboratory in Design and eco-materials.

By visiting LUMA in Arles, the students and teachers discovered a place that exploits the region's bio-resources and know-how to develop local solutions for an ecological and social transition.

The site is built on former railway workshops. To build "The Tower", the architect Frank Gehry was influenced by the Camargue region. "We wanted to evoke the local anchorage, from Van Gogh's "Starry Night" to the emergence of the boulders of the Alpilles. The rotunda echoes the Roman arena. »

The eco-park, designed by the architect Bas Smets, has more than 1100 trees of 140 different species.

Through this guided tour, students and teachers were made aware of the importance of regional culture and the environment in an architectural project. They discovered new eco-materials which are experimented in this place with the bio-plastic tiles (https://www.atelier-luma.org/en/projects/local-bioplastics) and the wall of salt (https://www.atelier-luma.org/en/projects/crystallization-plant).
