Asian Blepharophasty

Enhancing The Beauty Of Asian Eyes

Asian blepharoplasty surgery involves the creation of a new eyelid crease via suture ligation or an external incision technique. Suture ligation involves the tying of a suture to form the eyelid crease, whereas external excision involves the removal of a portion of the skin, underlying muscle, and fat to achieve the desired results. Both techniques provide a natural-looking crease and are also known as double eyelid surgery.

The Procedure

An Asian blepharoplasty, also known as double eyelid surgery, provides patients with a new natural-looking eyelid crease. The upper eyelid is divided to create this crease.

Suture ligation or external incision are the two techniques used to perform this procedure. Both are effective; however, which procedure your surgeon chooses will depend on your specific needs. Your eyelid tissues will be compressed and tied using a suture ligation technique after the eyelid has been "crimped" and indented to form a new, appropriately positioned crease. Sutures are tied and buried beneath the skin once they have been placed. This method produces a static crease, which means it does not move or soften as you look down, and the results may fade over time.

When you look down, an external incision technique creates a dynamic crease that moves and adjusts. It is especially beneficial for those who have heavy eyelids because this method can remove skin, underlying muscle, and fat. Prior to incision, the new crease line is marked to ensure proper height and shape. After the excision, the skin-muscle flap is replaced and the crease and incision are closed to begin the healing process.

Asian blepharoplasty is a procedure that is used to create a natural upper eyelid crease. Candidates are generally not looking for a "western" eyelid crease.

Concerns

Concerns addressed by Asian Blepharoplasty include:

Notes on Upper Eyelid Fold Recovery

After surgery, spend the rest of the day relaxing, preferably in an elevated position. While awake, cold compresses are applied continuously, and an ophthalmic ointment is applied to the incision several times per day. The pain is minimal and is usually relieved with over-the-counter medication. For the next 24 hours, refrain from watching television or reading. One week after surgery, the sutures are removed by Your Cosmetic Surgeon. Mild physical activity can be started after 10 days and progressed to full physical activity after 4 weeks. For the next six weeks, avoid sun exposure.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidates for Asian blepharoplasty want a permanent, natural, Asian-appearing upper eyelid crease and do not want "Western" eyes in general.

Patients with significant brow drooping, prominent eyes, systemic conditions such as healing difficulty, and symptoms of "dry eyes" are not candidates for Asian blepharoplasty.
