What is the significance of the title? Would the meaning have changed if the book was called "I Am a Legend"? How did Robert Neville become a legend?
Are there any winners in war? Are there situations in the book in which it doesn’t pay to fight?
Does scientific knowledge solve all problems, or does it create other problems?
In what ways can vampires be compared to the handicapped or physically or mentally impaired?
Do you think Ruth sincerely loved Robert? Why or why not?
Why did Ruth tell Robert in the final scene that there were too many of them to fight? Weren’t there just as many of them at the beginning of the novel?
Is it realistic to think that one man could prevail against so many vampires for so long?
Assignment: Write a short story in the style of HP Lovecraft! No length requirements, but must have a beginning, middle, and end!

At the end of the novel, the lie detector reveals that Paul's main motivation is that he is angry at his late father. Why is he angry? How has this influenced his choices?

There are many stories in the book about people being replaced by the machines they helped create. Find three examples of this, and discuss why these examples are important to the story.

Assignment: Pick a famous quote by James Allen. How does he support this thought in his writings? How do you fulfill the truth behind this quote in your own life? Think of a specific example in your own life to support the claim.
Assignment: Pick 1 Essay Topic from the list (or come to me with your own idea). Write a two page paper (typed, double-spaced, 12 pt font in Times New Roman) addressing the topic.Â
Essay Topic 1
Discuss math as an underlying theme in the novel. What elements are geometric? What role does algebra play (i.e., what formulas/equations are presented?). How is problem-solution methodology applied?
Essay Topic 2
Explain, argue, or defend the notion that "We" is a dystopian novel or a work of science fiction. Can it be both? What elements clearly place it in either category (or both)? Is it just a far-fetched story, or is there an underlying lesson?
Essay Topic 3
How does the format in which "We" is written enhance the story? Do we learn more about the events and/or characters through the journal format? How?
Essay Topic 4
Discuss clarity and irrationality as conflicting themes in the novel. What are some symbols of these concepts? How are they manifested in D-503?

How are the characters in "We" stereotypes of certain professions or literary archetypes?
