Week 11 & 12 – Lighting

□ Watch the four videos on the different types of lighting

□ Create a reflector (out of tinfoil) and use it in a staged way.

□ Post 4 photos on your Website (one photo for each lighting example)

□ Comment on 2 photos that you found online

This week we start focusing on light. It is important to be aware of your light sources in a shot. These videos will help you understand how the camera compensates for that light in the shot. When you are out playing with your camera this week take some time to observe the setting that your camera is taking shots in (ie: note the aperture and f-stop settings).

Your assignment this week is to take pictures using Natural Light, Reflectors (you can make one out of tin foil), a backlight, and a flash. Pick your favorite of each to post on your WIKI page.

Portraiture is a great way to practice using different lighting techniques. Here is an example of a photographer's release form. It is an ethical consideration that we all must make whenever we use someone's image in a picture we take. Have your subject sign a release so you can post their image. If your subject is a minor (under 18 years old) then you should get their guardian's signature as well.
