Modern poetry can often be seen (or heard) through song lyrics. There is a reason that songwriters are called writers. In the following project, you will choose a song by a songwriter to analyze. Keep in mind that some songs lend themselves better to this project better than others, so be flexible and careful in your choosing. The complete song lyrics & documentation must be included.

YOUR PROJECT:

1. Choose THREE songs, and find at least 3 different examples of poetic devices for each song (from the list above).

Insert the name of the poetic device IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING the line in the song.

Example: “ Blackbird singing in the dead of night

Take these broken wings and learn to fly” (Beatles) METAPHOR

2. For each song include a complete paragraph explaining what the song is about, or what it means to you.
