Standard #3 Learning Environments – The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self motivation.
INTASC #3 Interpretation - By working well with others a community of teachers we can build a fantastic learning environment for all of there students. It is important to see each other as individual learning designers collaborating together to create the best thing for there students. If you as there teachers work together effectively your students will lead by example and work together.
Artifacts - These artifacts include my classroom management philosophy, student-centered disipline plan, procedures flipbook, an interductory letter for students and parents. The procedures booklet includes procedures that students will use in the classroom and in rehearsals. The last artifact is an example of a theatre classroom and what is postitive and negative with the classroom layout and environment.
My concept of classroom management involves the value of students, a safe mental and physical classroom environment, and include all students in the learning process. I believe that every child deserves the chance for a proper education. All children have the want to learn inside of them it is up to the teacher however to pull that out of their students in a safe and nurturing environment. I believe that a student will not retain information until they feel safe and loved.
I create a safe and nurturing learning environment by starting with greeting as the students walk in the door of my classroom. I simple hello or good morning tells your student that you are glad they made it to your class that day. I also create my lesson plans to enhance all of my students’ strengths. It is important to have multiple different types of learning styles present in your assessments. The way into understanding and caring for your students is to care about their life and their well-being. This can be done with a get to know you game at the beginning of the year, but I believe that continuing this concept throughout the entire year is what lets students understand that they are more than just a grade.
Procedures are important in creating a successful classroom environment. These include beginning of class procedures: bell ringer, warm up activities, or a review of the last class. Having your students understand a schedule inside your classroom allows a structure inside your classroom. When structure is present it is less likely for situations to occur. A schedule inside my classroom would include being prepared for with a writing utensil, their spiral, phones put away, and an open mind ready to learn. Having these simple procedures will create a structured classroom environment.
