2025 AHS History Grants Submission Deadline Has Passed
Grants will be announced in December.
The Alexandria Historical Society (AHS) GRANTS are competitive awards to support historical research and interpretation projects relating to Alexandria and Northern Virginia history. Originally established to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of AHS in 2024, funds this year are again available from the AHS Endowment Fund, which was established explicitly to support publications, awards, and grants.
In awarding funds, AHS will prioritize detailed, well-defined projects that can be shared with the public. Funding for work leading to an Alexandria Chronicle publication and/or lecture presentation recorded for the AHS YouTube site is encouraged but not required. Grants may support a project/program that already has existing funding sources.
These grants support projects at all stages of development, from early planning to advanced implementation. Any research or interpretive project is eligible, including but not limited to:
exhibitions,
articles,
theses,
books,
physical and digital media, and
oral histories.
Grants can cover
research fees,
travel expenses,
image/video licensing,
final printing and fabrication, or
other project-related costs.
Applicants should submit a brief statement (3-4 pages) outlining:
the project purpose,
final product description,
how the grant funds will be utilized,
timetable, and
contact information for two references.
The applicant(s) are encouraged to submit a CV or resume.
Grant applications should be sent to alexandriahistoricalsociety@gmail.com by October 15, 2025.
Grant awards can be up to a maximum of $2,000.
All AHS Grant awardees should plan to complete their project/program by September 2026 and be prepared to provide a short (10-15 minute) public overview at an AHS meeting in Fall 2026.
