High School History Awards
Each year (except for 2020 during the early Covid pandemic), one exceptional history student from each of Alexandria's high schools is chosen to receive the Alexandria Historical Society's Alexandria High School History Award. AHS has honored nearly 170 students since 1984. AHS was unable to make any awards in 2020 due to Covid-19 complications.
Student awardees are nominated by their teachers and receive an engraved pewter Monticello Jefferson Cup.
Nominated students have demonstrated:
High academic achievement and scholarship in American history;
Motivation and sustained interest in American history
Awareness of the role of history and the historian in contemporary society;
Mastery of communication skills; and
Citizenship and student leadership.
