AINS CAMPUS VISION
The Future of Indian Numismatics
Conceived by Ujjwal B U Pant, Founder, AINCERT
All India Numismatics Council of Educational Research and Training
"Don't talk about money, talk about history."
THE VISION
The AINS Numismatic Sciences Campus is the long-term institutional vision of Ujjwal B U Pant, conceived at the age of twelve as the permanent home of everything AINCERT represents. It is a proposed campus housing four independent institutions under one roof, modelled on the AIIMS subdivision structure where specialised bodies share a common campus while maintaining their own identities, functions and leadership.
The campus is named AINS, standing for All India Numismatic Sciences. It will be the first institution of its kind in Asia and possibly the world, dedicated entirely to the academic, research, conservation and heritage dimensions of numismatics as a formal discipline.
THE FOUR INSTITUTIONS
The campus will house four institutions side by side.
The Pant Museum is the heritage and collection institution, serving as the permanent home of Ujjwal B U Pant's personal collection of over two thousand coins alongside Pant family heritage objects, Rakhigarhi field specimens and related antiquarian material. It will be open to the public as a museum and will house dedicated galleries for ancient Indian coinage, the Rakhigarhi documentation archive and the complete sweep of Indian numismatic history from the Indus Valley Civilisation to the present day.
AINS, the All India Numismatic Sciences Research Institute, will be the academic heart of the campus. It will house research laboratories, a numismatic library, an international archives division and a publication wing. AINS will seek the status of a deemed university, offering Masters and PhD level programmes in Numismatic Sciences, making it the first such academic programme in India. Visiting scholars, ASI researchers and international numismatists will work from AINS facilities.
AINCERT, the All India Numismatics Council of Educational Research and Training, will serve as the education and certification wing of the campus. It will house examination halls for ARCHIER and PF-ARCHIER grading certification, a digital education centre, a publishing division for the Ancient Treasures series and related works, and the official registry of AINCERT certified numismatists across India.
NCCA, the National Coin Conservation Authority, will serve as India's first dedicated authority for coin conservation and authentication. It will house conservation laboratories, scientific authentication facilities and a national registry of significant Indian coins. NCCA will work in collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India to set national standards for the conservation of numismatic finds from active excavations.
THE TWO SECTIONS
The campus will be divided into two sections serving different audiences.
The first section is open to students under eighteen years of age. This section, informally known as the Young Numismatists Wing, will offer introductory courses in coin history, hands-on grading workshops using the ARCHIER Scale, field trip programmes to sites including Rakhigarhi and guided access to The Pant Museum galleries. Junior AINCERT certification will be available to students in this section, allowing young collectors to receive formal recognition of their numismatic knowledge at an early age. The youngest student ever admitted to this section will always be Ujjwal B U Pant, who began his numismatic journey at the age of nine in Class 4 with no family background and no mentor.
The second section is the graduate and research wing, open to students aged eighteen and above. This section will offer Masters and PhD programmes through AINS, advanced ARCHIER examiner certification through AINCERT, conservation training through NCCA and full research access to The Pant Museum collection and archive. Graduates of this section will be India's first formally trained numismatic scientists.
THE INSPIRATION
The campus is inspired by the AIIMS model, where the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences operates as a distinct and respected institution within the larger AIIMS campus. In the same way, each of the four AINS institutions will have its own identity, its own leadership and its own function while sharing a common campus, common infrastructure and a common commitment to numismatics as a serious academic discipline.
The founder's own trajectory as a future Doctor and IAS officer informs the campus design. The combination of medical scientific rigour, administrative authority and numismatic expertise that Ujjwal B U Pant intends to bring to the campus will make AINS unique among institutions of any kind in India.
THE ORIGIN STORY
This vision began not in a boardroom or a government office but in a general store in Noida, where a nine-year-old boy spotted a coin he recognised and bought it with whatever he had in his pocket. It grew through 2001 coins, 177 photographs at an ASI excavation, a witnessed gold bead recovery at 10 feet depth, two original grading scales, three books, a live website, a mobile application, architectural drawings and this campus vision document.
Every institution begins somewhere. AIIMS began with a vision. Nalanda began with a vision. The AINS Numismatic Sciences Campus begins here, on this page, written by its twelve-year-old founder.
When the first batch of AINS graduates receive their degrees in numismatic sciences, the plaque at the campus entrance will read:
