The National Year of Reading is a nationwide goverment initiative designed to inspire a lifelong love of reading and to highlight the power of books in enriching lives, improving literacy, and bringing communities together. At our school, we are proud to be taking part in this exciting celebration of reading through a range of engaging activities and events for students, staff, and families.
Throughout the year, we will be hosting events and virtual talks, giving students the opportunity to meet writers, ask questions, and gain insight into the creative process behind their favourite books. There will also be competitions and reading challenges running across the school, encouraging students to explore new genres, share book recommendations, and celebrate their reading achievements.
To support reading at home, we have also created a dedicated Parent and Carer Reading Advice Zone on the LRC website. This online space offers guidance, tips, and recommended reading lists to help families nurture a love of reading together. Whether you’re looking for age-appropriate book suggestions, ways to encourage reluctant readers, or advice on how to discuss books at home, the Reading Advice Zone is a valuable resource for our school community.
Through these initiatives, we hope to strengthen our reading culture and show that reading is not just a school activity, but a lifelong habit that opens doors to knowledge, imagination, and connection.
