This page has been designed to help parents and guardians support your child in making the best progress possible on Bedrock Learning throughout the school year.
Bedrock Learning is a vocabulary and grammar curriculum program in which Key Stage 3 students are encouraged to complete 2–4 elements per week as part of their English homework. An element is either a pre- or post-topic test, or a lesson. Each element takes approximately 15–20 minutes to complete. During each lesson, your child will develop their vocabulary or grammar skills through engaging fiction and non-fiction texts and receive instant feedback on their progress. Meanwhile, you can receive weekly emails and have access to a parent/guardian account that provides direct insight into your child’s progress and learning on Bedrock Learning.
Before you can create a parent/guardian account or sign up for weekly email updates, you will need your child’s school access code. You can request this code by clicking on the Bedrock Parent/Carer Child Access Code Request Form below:
Go to www.bedrocklearning.org and select the “Log in” icon.
You will be directed to the login page; select the “Guardian sign up” icon.
Select “School access code.”
Fill in the form.
You will receive an activation email in your inbox to complete the sign-up process.
TIP: Once you’re all set up, you can link your Bedrock Guardian account to your existing Microsoft or Google login (for one less password to remember!).
NOTE: If you do not, be sure to make a note of your auto-generated Bedrock login details, which you can find in the Settings tab of your dashboard.
The following video explains all the features of your Bedrock Learning Parent/Guardian account and how the programme works.
Your child should complete two elements in vocabulary or grammar per week. Each element takes around 15–20 minutes to complete. It is important that your child takes their time to carefully read the text and answer the questions. However, your child can do more than two elements a week.
1 element = passing one lesson with a score of at least 60% or completing a pre- or post-topic test at the beginning or end of the topic. It is worth noting that your child can complete a maximum of 2 lessons per day in vocabulary and grammar.
If a student scores under 60% in a lesson, they repeat the lesson to ensure they retain the new words before moving on to the next lesson.
Bedrock Learning is an online platform designed to improve students’ vocabulary and grammar skills. Words are crucial for unlocking the curriculum, and we have begun to see the impact the platform is having on reading, writing, and overall literacy skills.
If a student scores 94% or more in two consecutive post-tests on vocabulary, they will be moved to the next block to ensure they maximise their learning. Conversely, if a student scores 25% or less, they will be re-allocated to the block below to ensure they are learning at the right level for their ability.
We review students’ progress on vocabulary at the end of every term. Sometimes we may move your child up or down a block depending on progress. If you feel your child’s block is either too challenging or not challenging enough, you can request a change by emailing your child’s English teacher.
Please note: The block is initially determined from the results of the Alpha Test your child took when they first logged in. The questions adapt to the level of answers given. Your child cannot change blocks in the grammar part of the program, as all students start in the Grammar Foundation block.
Students can get help with their Bedrock homework on Wednesdays after school until 4 pm in the LRC. Mr Evans (School Librarian) is available to support your child with any questions or issues regarding Bedrock.
For general questions or help with usernames and passwords, students can ask their English teacher or Mr Evans. During English lessons, teachers will regularly show students their progress.
If you have any questions regarding your Bedrock Learning Parent/Guardian Account, please email Mr Evans (School Librarian) at gee@abbeyfield.wilts.sch.uk.
If you have questions regarding your child’s learning or progress on Bedrock Learning, please contact your child’s English teacher via their school email address.
