Science - Elements for a strong FRED / EdTPA Assessment of Student Work
Multi-day assessment - To do well on EdTPA Task 3, you will need to comment extensively (Rubric 12) about various aspects of student work and gather information so that you can deliver better instruction next time (Rubric 15) . Consider combining a lab write-up, quiz, worksheet, and test into a "single assessment".
Learning Objectives - Assessment must be focus on learning objectives
Inquiry - Your assessment should illustrate inquiry (rubric 11).
Phenomena - Your assessment should ask for an explanation of the key phenomena in your LS.
Predictions - Ask students to make predictions based on their inquiry and analysis - Rubric 11
Data Interpretation - Students should be asked to analyze and interpret data. Include charts and graphs.
Models - It is best if your assessment illustrates how students have developed or used models.
Free-response Questions - You should include open-ended questions. EdTPA requires you to comment on student's language use in science learning (rubric 14).
Provide for resubmission, reworking, or subsequent lesson - Rubric 13 (Student use of feedback)
Language demands - questions / activities make use of vocabulary; symbols; syntax, discourse - Rubric 14
