Project Option: Network Development

One thing everyone can benefit from is developing their skills as a mentee - so you're prepared to always lead from the bottom in your career/life. This won't take a TON of time usually, but can be a great few hour filler that will benefit you for years to come.

Here's the strategy I recommend:

    1. Review the presentation below

    2. Review the Mentee Handbook prepared for the AWARDSS program (funded by IES)

    3. Create your own Developmental Network map, you can use this handout as a guide

    4. Diagnose the weaknesses in your map, and plan for taking it to the next level

    5. Start implementing your plan

  • I wrote this Mentee Handbook hand in hand with students from past AWARDSS cohorts re: what they felt they needed most to be effective Undergrad Researchers in the program. It's got things irrelevant to you that are specific to their program, but it also has extra details on being an effective mentee, the ADIR(M) method, Literature Reviews, etc. https://indd.adobe.com/view/e10e2337-b04d-4f2f-92ce-57b495cfedef

  • Here's the Developmental Network Mapping exercise:

  • Here are some additional materials that you may like having to try to assess fit/alignment when choosing mentors and for trying to assess your own strengths/weaknesses as a mentee to know where you need to develop:
