“Design, make and present at least one vase or piece of glassware of your own design in an appropriate environment to create a well-lit photo-realistic render.”

Successful completion of this project should allow you to meet the Distinction level criteria for this module.

• Design an organically themed piece of glassware/vase.
• Sketch out a profile of your chosen design to revolve into 3d (assuming it's symmetric), take a photo of that profile and use it as a traceable canvas to create the revolved vase/glassware in the material of your choice (as per the pawn tutorial).
• Place this vase/glassware on a presentation plinth or table of your own design in an environment of your choosing.
• Add an engraved brass, copper or gold plate engraved with your name in front of the product on the table.

Getting an excellent grade:

You need to identify and present the following evidence on a new page in your evidence site for this project (Glassware) to demonstrate you meet ALL the standards for this module.

Be sure to ANNOTATE the evidence on the page stating the criteria you are meeting (see the sample site here for evidence). Examples of evidence to meet each criteria include:

To get a Pass grade:

• To meet P1: "set up, manage and navigate a computer model environment", provide: Screengrab or Giphy evidence of you setting up and navigating the Fusion environment such as:
  • Enabling manually scaled gridlines instead of adaptive.
  • Closing the "recent files" window to maximise work space.
  • Using the navigation cube to orbit your piece.
  • Using Zoom-to-fit
• To meet P2: "Create 3D objects using tools and commands", provide: Annotated Screengrabs and Giphy's to:
  • Demonstrate you are able to use sketches to create 3d solids using extrude, push/pull.
  • Demonstrate you can use the scuplting environment to make simple shapes.
• To meet P3: "Modify and edit 3D solids and surfaces", provide: Annotated Screengrabs and Giphy's of you:
  • Modify and edit 3D solids and surfaces, e.g. filleting, setting material types.
• To meet P4: "Use lighting and rendering to enhance computer models", provide:
  • Renders of your models, giphys and annotated screengrabs of you setting up the lighting and rendering environment (as per the mug rendering exercise).
• To meet P5: "Review computer models", provide:
  • Annotated screen grabs of your models, an example would be identifying the gap between the handle and the body of the mug you created, fixing this also allows you to show some more advanced skills.

Merit grade:

• To meet M1: "Effectively and competently manage the modelling environment and produce complex and accurate 3D computer models", provide:
  • Evidence of dimensioning for accuracy
  • Examples of using constraints (like the lego brick tutorial, making the bosses with the horizontal/vertical constraint).
• To meet M2: "Demonstrate understanding of the advantages and limitations of the different 3D entities, tools and techniques employed in computer modelling", provide:
  • Evidence of an understanding of parametric modelling, for example that it is better to do a subtractive action precisely to a body or face instead of randomly into space as that projection could interfere with later modelling you do. Demonstrate this with either a short Giphy OR in your commentary whilst completing the model "I extruded to this face because......"
• To meet M3: "Consistently and effectively use self-defined lighting and materials to create realistic or creatively rendered computer models", provide giphys/screengrab:
  • Evidence of you assigning suitable materials to create a great rendered image
  • Evidence of you manipulating lighting settings to get a great rendered image.

Distinction grade:

• To meet D1: "Demonstrate diverse knowledge and understanding of aspects of computer modelling, working independently to create imaginative models, presenting them in a range of formats", provide:
  • Pull together all of the above and anything else you learn for a range of different models and purposes.
