What was the last compliment you gave your spouse?
Grace
“And so train the young women to love their husbands and children”. (Ephesians 5:33)
Men have this need for admiration more than women. Many of us have a deep desire to be respected, valued and appreciated by our spouse. We need to be affirmed clearly and often. It is one of the easiest needs to meet, a simple gesture of appreciation can make our day, while a quick word of criticism can ruin it.
We have the power to build up or tear down our spouse with our words. Admiration assures our spouse that they are appreciated, valued and respected. A kind word goes a long way in our spouse’s self-esteem and self-confidence. Admiration motivates and energizes us to achieve far more than what we have previously accomplished.
As a wife, we need to admire our spouse for what he already is and not for what he could become, if he lived up to your standards. Admiration helps the husband believe in themselves and not be defensive about their shortcomings. A man expects his wife to be his number 1 fan, admiring him and appreciating him.
To learn how to express admiration is to learn how to feel admired. When you know how it feels to be admired, you can be more giving of admiration to your spouse. Also, teach yourself to communicate admiration to your spouse. Learn to communicate admiration naturally as men need and thrive on appreciation. Gently and patiently encourage your husband to meet your needs by telling him how much you like the changes you see. It will yield positive returns in your married life.
