FreeBrainaAgeGames and SEN Students
BY: Flor Gati
As stated by Hockly (2017) SEN students are considered unique individuals with their own strengths and weaknesses. We should keep in mind that classrooms are heterogeneous places. As teachers one of our aims should be to make ALL our students feel included. Technology will help us achieve our aim. 👩🏫🏫❤️
I've chosen the webpage freebrainagegames. In this webpage people can exercise their brains 🧠 while playing entertaining games 🎮. There is a game in particular that caught my attention: Attention Stroop. This tool ’’(...) will train you to focus, improve your concentration, and pay attention.’’ (Free Brain Games, n.d.) The game is a variation of the well-known stroop effect. One has to name the colour of the word, not the name of the word in order to score points.
If your students are learning the colours, this game is a great tool for testing their knowledge while at the same time exercising their brains. I think that this tool will be of great help to anyone because it is really important to keep our brains working. However, it can certainly help students with attention disorders since the game requires them to conscientiously think before answering in an engaging, game-like environment. Moreover, this tool will surely help adult students; Free Brain Games (n.d) states that ‘’As we get older the challenges associated with inattentiveness grow. Deteriorating visual attention can affect behavior, such our ability to read or drive.’’ The game will help adults to train their ability to focus while processing information at the same time.
I personally played this game with one of my students who has speech difficulties. I asked him to say the answers aloud, which helped him work on his speech. He had a lot of fun, he didn’t even realize he was exercising his speech and brain at the same time.
In conclusion, this variation of the Stroop Effect is a great game to play with anyone. This tool helps us exercise our brains, something that we should do on a daily basis. 🤯💪
