1 Peter 2:17-25
Jesus Bore Our Sins
17Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.
18Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. 19For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. 20But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. 21To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
22"He committed no sin,
and no deceit was found in his mouth." 23When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 25For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
St. Peter tells us to show proper respect to everyone...We should love our fellow believers...We should honor our government leaders...We should fear and respect God...We should realize the He is all knowledgeable...In Peter's time, there were slaves and he tells the slaves to show respect to both the good, considerate masters and to harsh masters...It is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering, because he is conscious of God...When we suffer for good and endure it, it is commendable before God...To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving us an example that we should follow in His steps...Jesus committed no sin...He had no deceit in His mouth...His enemies hurled insults at Him...He did not retaliate...When He suffered on the cross, He made no threats to them...Instead He entrusted in God... He Himself bore our sins in and on His body on the cross, so that we might die to our sins and live for righteousness in His name...By His wounds on the cross, we are healed from our sins...We are like sheep going astray in our sins, but can return to Him, when we repent and turn to the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls...
Jesus was not a sinner, but He took on our sins...God's plan was to give us Jesus to die for our sins...He took the sins of each man, when He was on the cross...God loves us show much, that He made Jesus feel the pain of our sins, the evil each of us have...And when He felt this sin around Him and then in Him, He died on the cross...His death was for each of us...Jesus takes our sins so the wrongs each of us has done, has been made right by His death...He has reconciled us to God...After His death the Holy Spirit will take what is His and make it known to us (John 16:15)...God placed everything in His Son's hands (John 3:35)...Jesus came to earth to live, to teach us, to die on the cross, to resurrect for us, and then to return to His Father...Sometimes this is hard to understand, because He is from above and we are from below...The One from above is above all, and we on earth belong to the earth (John 3:31)...He is all knowing, we are not...He is able to understand all in heaven, and all things on earth...We do not even understand the things on earth...
Christians are servants of God...We owe our lives to the Father and Son...We must try in all our relations with others to be fair and like Jesus...He teaches us to love our enemies...Jesus' death gives us a new life, a rebirth, a life of righteousness through Him...
Man sins...When we sin, we drift from God...We move further away from God with our sins...God loves us so much, that He sent His Son to die for us, to get closer to Him...
