Student were asked to go through the design process and create a product using only recyclable and reused materials. In the school yard audit, students came to the conclusion that we would be able help sustain wildlife in and around the school grounds. The product that was asked to be created are bird feeders. Students collected and then searched through all the different materials and created designs with steps to create their products. The materials were then divided up and students created pieces that fit together. Following the design process, students then assessed to see if their plan would work and collaborated with their classmates to develop their idea, plan, and products. To ensure that students were safe during this process, adults would help cut and use tools to manipulate the materials.
Although the products have not been completed yet, many of the products are well on their way. This spring and in the new learning garden, there will be very happy birds!
