Saddle and Harness Shop

Peter H. Steele was listed in the 1821 Petitioner’s List for West Florida, meaning he lived in Pensacola at the time. As the primary means of transportation in the 19th century was by horse, a saddle shop would have been quite popular.

The Market House was located close to the shore line, approximately where Plaza Ferdinand is today. However, venders could be found along Palafox from the water all the way to Garden Street. Garden, named so for its abundant garden plots, transitioned to a more cosmopolitan streetscape as the city grew.
