Current Location: St. Mary's College, Oscott, Birmingham

Inventory No 507 silk cope-

A pale ivory silk cope which is embroidered with clusters of flowers in gold, green, pink and blue silk floss. Edged with gold braid and an orphrey of the same fabric. Attached hood is missing and the empty space has been filled with a patch of the same base material. Four wheat ears have been crudely embroidered with silver thread around the floral embroideries in the centre to indicate the cope an ecclesiastical vestment. Wheat ears represented the resurrection, the cycle of life and were a covert symbol used by Catholic communities. The cope also has an empty frame for a family coat of arms on its lower section.
