Medieval Orphreys- Stanbrook Abbey

Medieval Orphreys, 1400-1500

Current location: private collection

Re-mounted onto purple fabric to form a chasuble in the 20th century

The chasuble is part of the collections of the Benedictine Stanbrook Abbey and was probably given to the Convent in the 19th century by a local Catholic family when the order re-settled in Worcester.

Founded in 1623 in Cambrai, the Spanish Netherlands (now northern France), the Benedictine monastery of Our Lady of Comfort returned to England and settled in Worcester in 1838, later moving to a new build in Wass, Yorkshire, 2009.
