Inventory No 455 Embroidered red velvet cope incomplete conservation to chasuble; motif Assumption of the Virgin

Two pieces of red velvet which are embroidered in gold and silver thread and coloured silks. On the larger piece is a representation of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin, surrounded by angels and above is a cross. The remainder of the ground is decorated with seraphims on wheels, flowers and at the bottom is a double headed eagle. On the small piece of velvet are four stylised flowers and spangles. The embroidery is crude and appears incomplete.

Angled motifs of water flowers have been moved as attempt was made to convert it from a cope to a chasuble. The Virgin stayed in place- a sign of recusancy. Seam down middle of front.
