In vitro fertilization and embryo transfer

This course presents the in vitro fertilization protocol in domestic animals, including oocyte collection from various sources (ovaries of slaughtered animals, ovum pick-up), in vitro maturation of oocytes, semen preparation for IVF (Percoll, swim-up), fertilization by classical techniques as well as ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection), embryo cultivation and integrity evaluation.
The course will also present embryo transfer in domestic animals, including estrus induction and synchronization, superovulation, artificial insemination, embryo collection from donors, morphologic evaluation of embryos, embryo sexing and cryopreservation, as well as embryo transfer to recipient females.

Safety of apiarian and piscicultural products

The aim of the course is to describe the specific conditions and measures necessary to ensure the quality and safety of apiculture and fishery products during all stages of the food chain.
The specific objectives of the course are:
Honey:
• Chemical composition
• The honey bee processing technology
• Honey as a functional food
• Evaluation of the quality of bee honey and apiculture products through laboratory examinations
• Risks regarding its utilization and consumption;
• Bee products and their safe use: pollen, vax, royal jelly, venom and propolis.
• Bee diseases and their impact on public health.
Fish, seafood and fishery products:
• Morpho-structural features
• Chemical composition
• Assessment of the quality and integrity of fish and see food
• Technology for processing of fish and sea foods
• Safety assurance of fish and seafood’s - impact on public health.
During the course, several study visits will be carried out on fish breeding farms (trout, carp) and in honey and apiculture products collection and processing units.
At the end of the course, the students will assimilate the knowledge and skills regarding the assessment of the quality and safety of honey and fish intended for public consumption.

The purpose of this lecture is to facilitate understanding of animal and human behavior in order to optimize the human-animal relationship, but also to improve the quality of human and animal life.
The specific objectives are the following:
Ø History of pet use;
Ø Pets, from arachnids to aquatic mammals;
Ø The specific behavior of pet animals. Pets needs;
Ø The use of pets in therapy (Animal-assisted therapy);
Ø Training elements for the use of animals in natural disasters (earthquakes, floods, avalanches);
Ø Training elements for the use of animals in cross-border control (narcotic identification, counterfeit money and other smuggling goods);
Ø Ethical considerations and prevention of pet abuse;
