After revising my initial design blueprint based on Dr. Tayzon's feedback that it should be at least good for eight weeks, I immediately sent it to her for her review so I could officially start with the development phase. When I asked her opinion on the learning activities I designed, she said that as long as they are suitable and appropriate for my target age group, then it is okay. Thus, the following day on November 5, 2024, I immediately started doing the instructional materials for the first module.
As of writing, I have finished drafting the instructional materials and worksheets for Module 1 and I showed a sample of the worksheets to Dr. Tayzon as per her request too. For this week and the next, my focus is completing all the instructional materials and resources needed for all the learning activities so I can proceed with the drafting of the teachers' manual. Thankfully, I believe I am on pace with my Gantt chart timeline for the special project.
When I started drafting the worksheets, I kept in mind what I have learned from EDS 151 (Instructional Media Resources) and EDS 153 (Design of Educational Multimedia Materials) which is Mayer's 12 Principles of Design for Multimedia Learning to ensure that young learners will not get distracted by extraneous or unnecessary elements. I also made sure that there are enough white spaces and that the font style I chose was suitable for preschool learners (sans serif and uses the simple letter "a").
For now, I have to continue and finish working on the instructional materials for the next two weeks and hopefully come the implementation stage, the instructional materials will be effective and engaging for my target learners. Fingers crossed!
