Ancient Greek culture was an eminently maritime culture, given its location in the heart of the Mediterranean, a strong commercial and expansive mood. It was politically-socially organized in city-states, called polis, the main of which were Athens, Sparta, Corinth and Thebes.

BCE). As such, it was later suppressed in favor of other religions.
