Flipgrid (Trawinski)

This tech tool is a website that allows teachers to create "grids" of short discussion-style questions that students respond to through recorded videos. Each grid is basically a message board where a teacher can pose a question and students can post 90-second video responses that appear in a "grid" display. Lucid Chart (Trawinski)

Lucidchart allows users to collaborate and work together in real time to create flowcharts, organizational charts, mind maps, and many other diagram types. This is a great digital option for students to create thinking maps in any subject area. Click here to see 10 ways that this tool is being used in the classroom.

Classtools (Trawinski)

This website has a variety of resources that teachers or students can use. One featured resource on the site is Fakebook. This is a made up version of Facebook that allows students to change the profile picture, name, info and post as the character they’ve developed. It requires students to research and learn more the person in order to create the page.

Poll Everywhere (Trawinski)

This website allows for audience participation to increase student engagement. You can create a poll for students to vote on using their laptop, smartphone, tablet, etc. The poll updates in a matter of seconds and can be displayed on a projector, webpage, or embedded in a presentation.

NewseumED (Trawinski)

NewseumED has an online collection of primary sources, news artifacts, and lessons that help teach media literacy, civics, and all aspects of the First Amendment, giving students an up-close look at history. The website offers free resources to help students learn how to analyze and evaluate information from a variety of sources and put current events in historical context through lesson plans aligned to standards, videos, primary sources, virtual classes and programs.


Glogster (Yvonna)

Glogster is an engaging alternative to handmade poster presentations (website and app; Apple store only), that allows students of all ages to create interactive multimedia posters. In addition to images and text, students can add audio, video, and graphics to a Glog. Unfortunately, however, Glogster is not free. Pricing ranges from $5 per month to $95 per year.

Socrative (Yvonna)

Socrative is an assessment tool that allows teachers to receive immediate data regarding student understanding. Teachers can use it to conduct short quizzes, launch exit tickets, and/or ask questions. Socrative even analyzes assessment data, making it easier for teachers to design data-driven instruction.
