Browse the links below to find resources relating to Math in your classroom
1. DESMOS: A website that allows you the teacher a chance to use online resources to help students learn more about math. There are links for support with the four function calculator, lessons for content, and video ideas. This is a new add on calculator that is being offered on all online North Carolina Final Exams. Great for classes that need graphing calculator functions but the students do not have access to a graphing calculator in class or at home.
2. TED-Ed Mathematics: provides student engagement through TED talks. By using short videos that provide support for content being taught int the classroom, students are able to engage in mathematics concepts. After showing the video there are navigational links that provide follow up questions, investigate further, and also discussion opportunities. These lessons are ready to use or can be customized to fit your needs.
3. Dreambox Learning: A website for the middle school student, with a heavier focus on females in S.T.E.M and Mathematics. Embedded within the text, you will find activities, i.e. games and class discussions, to help engage learners in their math content. Once you have clicked on an activity, you will find a video example of the activity working, questions to guide your lesson idea, and supporting material.
4. NRICH Advanced STEM: On this homepage you are able to find Mathematics STEM resources for the high school student. Once here you can pick on your specific content area, i.e. Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. There a chart populates with the math topic, style of activity, "Questions" (aka supporting documents), and a brief description.
5. iExploreSTEM: Fun activities to engage all students in Mathematics while in a STEM classroom! Each activity provides a link to access directions, materials needed, and other information you may need to create your lesson.
6. GeoGebra is free dynamic mathematics software for all levels of education that brings together geometry, algebra, spreadsheets, graphing, statistics and calculus in one easy-to-use package. It can be used in math or as a tool in any subject that uses math.
My students use GeoGebra mostly to graph and explore/manipulate data. This helps them to see, for example, the effect of predator / prey population fluctuations and the long-term water quality of our trout aquarium. Students love to "play" with GeoGebra if they have extra time. There are really cool learning games too.
This journal will help you get started.
7. National Council of Teachers Math: If you choose CLASSROOM RESOURCES tab and search for your topic, there are LOTS of articles, ideas, and resources for S.T.E.M. - or any topic that uses math as a tool.
