Browse the links below to find resources relating to Science in your classroom
1. Texas Gateway: Free Online Resources for all S.T.E.M related content. Designed for the Texas TEKS Assessment to align with Texas State Standards but applicable to other state and federal standards as well.
2. Science Olympiad is one of the largest STEM Inquiry based resources available, and is aligned to state and national science standards. Each year, thousands of students from public, private, and home schools compete for medals, scholarships, and bragging rights in rigorous STEM fields. There are resources and events in all states for elementary, middle, and high school students. Explore the entire site, or click on the Resources tab to see what Science Olympiad has to offer your students! Resources can also be used for class projects if you aren't feeling up to coaching a team.
3. Edpuzzle is an online tool you can use for a flipped classroom, review, or warm ups. You can take the best educational video clips on the internet, and customize them by adding in your own questions. You can set up classes for your students to join to monitor students progress and collect data.
4. Summary strategy: This strategy teaches students how to summarize text. This is very helpful when dealing with information filled text that you can encounter in science class. It starts with 2 column notes, pulling out bullets (details) from each paragraph along with a main idea. You then organize all your main ideas and details in a topic web map. Finally you take each row from the topic web and turn it into a sentence. Each paragraph essentially becomes a one sentence summary.
5. AAAS offers excellent advice on common misconceptions of middle grades and high school science students. You must create an account, which is free. You can then explore topics and common misconceptions. You can also create your own assessment by adding the questions you want to your test bank. You are allowed to export these test questions as long as you do not profit from them and only use them with your students. This is one of my go-to websites when planning each unit.
6. C-K12: This website provides online textbook resources to help you have current content at your fingertips. Beyond the text there are also videos and lessons that provide support in many science content areas.
