Below is a list of free/open access databases of electronic journals, electronic books and other e-resources that are recommended by the University Library to provide additional sources of information for faculty, students and researchers. Most of the electronic resources you will find in these sites are free and openly available for public use.
ASEAN Digital Library - a regional project to aggregate and connect the digitized resources of National Libraries in the ASEAN region so that these repositories can be accessed through a single search facility.
Cambridge Open Access - Cambridge OA serves authors and the wider community by publishing high-quality, peer-reviewed OA content that allows readers to redistribute, re-use and adapt the content in new works.
CK12 - an online educational content site sponsored by the CK-12 Foundation, a nonprofit that desires to increase worldwide K-12 access to high-quality STEM content. CK-12’s main offering is a collection of free digital textbooks (called “Flexbooks”) for high school age students, particularly on topics in science, engineering and math.
CORA - stands for Community of Online Research Assignments. It is an open educational resource (OER) for librarians, faculty, and other educators. It is intended to be a collaborative space for adapting and experimenting with research assignments and sharing the success or lessons learned so that others may benefit. The site contains multiple, reliable and reproducible research assignments that do not live as isolated entities, but are enhanced by user feedback in order to build a rich corpus of best practices. There is also a Teaching Toolkit featuring a wide range of resource types including pedagogy/theory, assessment, classroom activities, technology tips, subject guides, citation tools, and information literacy tutorials.
Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) - a community-driven discovery service that indexes and provides access to scholarly, peer-reviewed open access books and helps users to find trusted open access book publishers.
Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) - a community-curated online directory that indexes and provides access to high quality, open access, peer-reviewed journals. All DOAJ services are free of charge including being indexed. All data is freely available.
Elsevier Open Access Journals - all articles in open access journals which are published by Elsevier have undergone peer review and upon acceptance are immediately and permanently free for everyone to read and download.
F1000Research - an Open Research publishing platform for scientists, scholars and clinicians offering rapid publication of articles and other research outputs without editorial bias.
Google Scholar - It provides a search of scholarly literature across many disciplines and sources, including theses, books, abstracts and articles.
HathiTrust Digital Library - a digital preservation repository and highly functional access platform. HathiTrust provides long-term preservation and access services to digitized content from a variety of sources, including Google, the Internet Archive, Microsoft, and in-house member institution initiatives.
JSTOR Open Access Books - 7,000+ Open Access ebooks from 90 publishers, including Brill, Cornell University Press, De Gruyter, and University of California Press, are now available at no cost to libraries or users.
Let's Read Digital Library - Let’s Read builds a world where curious and educated readers create thriving societies. Let's Read draws on the Asia Foundation's 18 offices in the region and deep ties in local communities to build an unprecedented digital library of relatable, local language books accessible to all children. Let's Read nurtures reading habits that enable children to reach important developmental milestones, families to share stories that affirm their culture, and communities to flourish and grow inclusively.
Merlot - provides access to curated online learning and support materials and content creation tools, led by an international community of educators, learners and researchers.
National Academies Press - publishes the reports of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. The NAP publishes more than 200 books a year on a wide range of topics in science, engineering, and medicine, providing authoritative, independently-researched information on important matters in science and health policy.
OpenStax - publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed, openly licensed textbooks that are absolutely free online and low cost in print.
Paperity - is the first multi-disciplinary aggregator of Open Access journals and papers, "gold" and "hybrid". It: gives readers easy and unconstrained access to thousands of journals from hundreds of disciplines, in one central location; helps authors reach their target audience, disseminate discoveries more effectively and maximize research impact; and raises exposure of journals, boosts their readership and encourages new manuscript submissions.
Primo - is a means to promote and share peer-reviewed instructional materials created by librarians to teach people about discovering, accessing, ethically using and evaluating information in networked environments. The Committee hopes that publicizing selective, high quality resources will help librarians to respond to the educational challenges posed by still emerging digital technologies.
World Digital Library - a project of the U.S. Library of Congress, with the support of UNESCO, and contributions from libraries, archives, museums, educational institutions, and international organizations around the world. The WDL sought to preserve and share some of the world’s most important cultural objects, increasing access to cultural treasures and significant historical documents to enable discovery, scholarship, and use.
Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas - To increase public awareness on various economic and financial issues, as well as promote transparency in its operations, the BSP releases various publications, reports, media releases and other relevant resource materials.
Globe eLibrary - a web platform that features age-appropriate and engaging e-books and e-learning videos which can be accessed through mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers.
Filipinas Heritage Library - houses contemporary and rare volumes on Philippine art, history, and culture; vintage recordings of Philippine music; vintage photographs; and maps, periodicals, and multimedia materials. The library has also embarked on a massive digitization project to make a significant part of its collection available online.
National Commission of Culture and The Arts (NCCA) - NCCA’s homepage is the country’s best site for information on Philippine culture and the arts. Search links for biography of national artists, publications about Philippine culture, art photos and contest announcements, both local and international, including employment opportunities are available. The Commission’s colorful web page is very inviting to explore about with its schedule of activities – from the most celebrated cultural, historical events to the most recently talked about performances, free or fee-based, and awarding ceremonies. The site also highlights varied online resources for the seven (7) arts leading to not only a discovery but of the enrichment of the Filipino soul.
Philippine eLib - a collaborative project of the National Library of the Philippines (NLP), University of the Philippines (UP), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Agriculture (DA), and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). Available resources include: Union catalog of the five partners; Digitized Filipiniana materials including theses and dissertations; Special collection/researches of the five partners; and, Online resources/subscription to electronic databases.
Philippine Journal of Science - the online version of the Philippine Journal of Science (Philipp J Sci or PJS)—an open-access, single-blind peer-reviewed journal on natural sciences, engineering, mathematics, and social sciences. PJS is published by the Department of Science and Technology and managed by Science and Technology Information Institute.
STARBOOKS - Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Stations, or STARBOOKS, are one-stop repositories for science and technology and livelihood information.
PHL CHED Connect - A web application that contains higher education course materials in text, media and other digital assets that are useful for teaching, learning and research purposes.
DepEd Learning Portal - The LRMDS provides access to quality resources from the Regions, Divisions, Cluster/School level: including: information on quantity and quality and location of textbooks and supplementary materials, and cultural expertise; access to learning, teaching and professional development resources in digital format and locates resources in print format and hard copy; and standards, specifications and guidelines for assessing & evaluating, acquiring & harvesting, modification, development and production of resources. It is also a quality assurance system providing support to DepED Regions, Divisions and Schools in the selection and acquisition of quality digital and non-digital resources in response to identified local educational needs.
