Center for Allied Health Programs

ABOUT

The Center for Allied Health Programs (CAHP) which offers both undergraduate and graduate programs, was established in 2006 as an academic structure to foster innovation and collaboration in the development of digital pathways toward educating the next generation of allied health professionals, and to address Minnesota's projected statewide shortages in the health professions. The Medical Laboratory Sciences Program (MLS) offers certificate, baccalaureate and master's-level degrees, while the Occupational Therapy Program (OT) offers a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy (OTD) degree.

Medical Lab Science

Medical laboratory testing plays a crucial role in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, as well as monitoring and maintaining patient health. Approximately 75% of all medical diagnostic and treatment decisions are based on the testing performed by laboratory science professionals. In addition to the traditional hospital, laboratory MLS professionals work in a variety of other settings such as research and development, environmental, and public health laboratories.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists work with children and adults who have, or are at risk of having, difficulty performing everyday activities. Occupational therapists serve as vital members of an intervention team, consulting with individuals, families, physicians, physical and speech therapists, nurses, social workers, psychologists, vocational counselors, teachers and other specialist to address active participation about everyday living of individuals, communities, and populations. Occupational therapists blend scientific knowledge of the human body, mind, emotions and spirit, with an understanding of the challenges of disability, environment and culture.

Please note: The MLS program is an undergraduate degree program, and the OT program is a doctorate level program. The CAHP staff will be tabling during the grad/prof session on October 5th, so please connect with them about both programs during the grad/prof session on Oct 5.
