Center for Allied Health Programs

ABOUT

Welcome to the University of Minnesota's Center for Allied Health Programs (CAHP). CAHP was established in 2006 as an academic structure to foster innovation and collaboration in the development of digital pathways toward educating the next generation of allied health professionals. The programs within CAHP also serve to address Minnesota's projected statewide shortages in the health professions.

The Occupational Therapy Program (OT) offers a doctorate of OT (OTD) degree, and the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program (MLS) offers a baccalaureate, as well as master's-level and certificate degree options.

Medical Lab Science

Medical laboratory scientists make up the third largest group of healthcare professionals, after physicians and nurses. With approximately 70% of all medical diagnostic and treatment decisions based on the testing performed by laboratory science professionals, these individuals play a crucial role in communicating results to physicians or other healthcare providers for overall patient care.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists combine science, creativity and compassion into the work they do every day. OTs work with people who have, or are at risk of having, difficulty performing everyday activities. They blend scientific knowledge of the human body, mind, emotions and spirit, with an understanding of the challenges of disability, environment and culture.
