Co-creating a schematic landscape plan for the new Villaggio Solidale | June 29-July 8
The Goal
To Co-create a schematic landscape plan for the new Villaggio Solidale (VS) extension with residents and local partners, using activities such as collaging and schematic design workshops to generate a program for public and shared spaces.
The research team conducted numerous visits to community organizations to gain a deeper understanding of the needs of the Villaggio Solidale residents, as well as those of the surrounding community. The visits also provided valuable information on the ecology of the region and how it can be incorporated into the expansion design. The team used their findings to develop three design concepts for the space, which integrate those created by architect Francesco Maria Agliardi.
Participatory Activities
Researchers created a coloring activity to do with the CSE residents in order to learn about the colors and aesthetics that they enjoy the most. They colored printed insects, flowers, and plants, and asked the participants why they chose that insect/plant, what they like about the landscape, and what they would change about it.
Researchers visited the SFA workshop for a co-design activity for the landscapes of Villaggio Solidale and the expansion. Several landscape element icons were printed, and participants chose their favorite thing they wanted to see and worked together to place them on the site. Their ideas helped inform the final design concepts.
Researchers met with Villaggio Solidale Social Workers Alessandra and Silvia to talk about their goals and needs for the residents. The team utilized sticky notes to categorize goals and link them to the UN Sustainable Development Goals that guide the project.
