Goals
In the Spring of 2022, a small group of Landscape Architecture graduate students and faculty at the University of Maryland joined together to form the Villaggio Solidale Living Lab in conjunction with an international Landscape Democracy program called Open Landscape Academy
The Living Lab sought to research, set goals, and outline a vision for a landscape physically and conceptually linking two charitable organizations in neighboring towns, Consorzio Fa/Villaggio Solidale in Lurano and FIEB/Corte Dei Massari in Castel Cerreto.
The research team embraced the UN Sustainable Development Goals, choosing 5 to guide the Solidarity Landscape project
The UN Sustainable Development has a total of 17 goals that aim to promote prosperity while protecting the planet.
These goals align with the principles of Landscape Democracy, which include the right to access healthy, supportive, delightful landscapes. However, these rights come with the responsibility of being stewards of the land and managing and maintaining the landscape thoughtfully.
