Environmental Concerns
Due to its geographical and socio-economic characteristics, Lombardy is particularly susceptible to the impacts of climate change. Located at the base of the Alps, the region is already subject to the extremes of both flooding and drought. As weather patterns become more variable and extreme, residents voice concerns.
Of the 236 events that have occurred in Lombardia during the last 14 years, almost 70% of them have occurred between 2021-2024. Locals have said that they have noticed tornadoes increasing in frequency. While drought has been a major concern, extreme weather events have also caused recent flooding in the region.

This region suffers from long periods of drought that have only gotten worse in recent years. In 2022, Italy experienced the worst drought they had seen in 70 years. The Po River and local fontanili have become increasingly dry, and agriculture land value is expected to drop 87-162 billion euros by the year 2100.
