Engineers for a Sustainable World
About
Engineers for a Sustainable World (ESW) is an international network of students and professionals united by a shared passion for technical sustainability.
Formed during the fall 2019 semester, our UIC chapter is focused on bringing together engineering students across all majors to work on projects pertaining to sustainability and renewable energy.
Membership Benefits
Engineering experience: Through our projects and workshops, students can acquire valuable skills and expertise in areas such as computer aided design (CAD), the engineering design process, project management, renewable energy systems, and more.
Networking opportunities: We host various guest speakers throughout the year to provide members with the opportunity to network with professionals in sustainable-focused industries.
Leadership opportunities: We offer multiple leadership positions including Officers, Junior Board, and Project Leads. These positions allow members to improve necessary skills such as communication and problem solving.
Current Projects
PETBot
PETBot cuts, melts, and shapes recycled plastic into 3D printer filament. Benefits of making PETBot include reducing plastic waste, shorter wait times for students that use 3D printers, and experience in building, coding, and electrical components.
Hydroponics
Hydroponics is a system that can grow plants without any soil, which eliminates soil-borne pests and weeds. The circulatory system conserves water and nutrients. This semester, we plan on improving and maintaining the current system.
