We are UIC's only aerospace club. We beat gravity on a daily basis.
There are three teams within our club: Rockets, Drones, and DBF (planes)
Rocketry
We build rockets fully from scratch. Our main competitions right now is Argonia, where we play golf at 8k feet, and IREC where we build every components on the rocket ourselves and launch up to 30k ft in New Mexico.
Our members have the opportunity to get certified in high power rocketry, most orgs don't offer certifications but we do.
Drones
We design customized drones which are then printed at the Maker Space using the school's 3D printers available for students. Our main competition is the Midwest Robotics Design Competition which is located at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. There we compete with several different universities to see who can design the best robot or drone to complete several different tasks assigned by the competition judges.
Design, Build, Fly
We are given a task from the competition leaders at the beginning of the year, then we design, build, and fly that plane against people all around the world! Our tasks have ranging from crop dusting to speed to passenger planes, we do it all. We utilize programs like XLR5 and Solidworks, while using the school facilities like the Makerspace and machine shop.
