The Association for Computing Machinery Student Chapter at the University of Illinois at Chicago (ACM @ UIC) is a community for all UIC students interested in software development. This includes computing, computing machinery, and related technologies. ACM @ UIC members engage in computing-related social and educational activities through special events, guest speakers, and working in Special Interest Groups (SIGs).
The driving force behind ACM @ UIC is its students' insatiable desire to understand and contribute to the computing technology around us. It is this desire that drives us to excel and keeps this organization fun.
You can find us virtually on Discord, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
Our ACM lounge is at SELE 2264, in case you want to swing by and say hello.
Do you want to build a project, in a field of your choice, that goes on your resume, to stand out in a sea of 'Classroom Projects'?
Do you enjoy being around people with similar career interests and hobbies as yourself?
Do you want to quiz CS Professors (Stump The Profs) on their technical skills, or win programming competitions with a group of friends?
Is a technical workshop, either by ACM members or the Big Tech something to your liking?
What about some free, ready-to-borrow Arduino kits for CS 362?
Do you think that Computer Science is a place for every single person who simply chooses this field?
If you answered yes to any of the questions above, the Gods have chosen you to be an ACM member and you can't back out now.
We have Special Interest Groups (SIGs) which are a group of students interested in one particular topic in CS and meet weekly to build cool projects over a semester, participate in competitions, and learn things outside of the classroom. We have SIGs for WebDev, Game, Quant-Trading, SysAdmin, Math, Jobs. We're also scheduled to add SIG-AI by the end of the Fall 2023 semester, given visible interest.
SIGs are open to all (irrespective of your academic standing) and most importantly, are beginner-friendly.
Lastly, our services include Private Networks with Fast Wi-Fi (Because we can!), Workstations for members with Xeons & RTX GPUs, Servers, Cloud (for our Machine Learning folks), and Library (for classes or research).
Here are some resources if you want to take it to the next level, with ACM:
All you need to become a member is to hop into our Discord (linked above!)
Check out the official ACM website to gain more information: https://acm.cs.uic.edu

When you come to our events, please tag us on Instagram (make your stories public!) and LinkedIn so we can tag you back!
We understand it can be overwhelming for first time-users, so here's the how-to of our Discord server (or, group). Do not hesitate to ask questions. We're all chronically online and too shy to be angry at your questions!
