Must Advance to Candidacy by the summer of their 4th year to maintain normative progress, otherwise will be considered for Academic Notice.
Complete all coursework;
Have no "I" Incomplete grades;
Pay $90 ATC fee;
the quarter before
Nominate a faculty committee to deliver your Oral Qual:
Comprised of 4 people, at least half of which must be tenured;
1 person must be a tenured member outside the Physics Department; if they are not faculty, you must include a CV for Grad Div review;
The Chair must be tenured, and is usually your advisor;
Must be approved by Graduate Division at least 30 days before you take your qual, which means get it to the Grad Coordinator before then.

Take and pass your Oral Qualifying Exam;
The Committee Chair emails the Oral Qual Report to physgradadvising@ucsc.edu;
Nominate a faculty committee to read your Dissertation:
Committee must have at least 3 members;
at least half of the committee must be tenured (members of the UC Santa Cruz Division of the Academic Senate).
