Our goal is to help you gain relevant skills to support you in your role as a 4-H volunteer. In addition to the courses offered here, please check with your county 4-H office about training and orientation sessions they may be offering in-person.
We use the Extension Foundation system to deliver interactive courses, on-demand. This system is now called Extension Foundation Campus (Campus).
You can take the courses on a computer or using the mobile app. The mobile app allows you to take the courses offline!
In addition to our Core (required) courses for adult volunteers, we offer eLearning courses at no cost for California 4-H members, volunteers and staff. You are welcome to take these courses on demand as you need them.
Each course offered by California 4-H has a unique enrollment key for each California county. Use your county's key to enroll in the course. Please note that all courses require an individual login and an enrollment key.

The California 4-H New Volunteer Course is a required learning experience for adults serving in their first year as a 4-H volunteer or returning after a break in service of one year or more. This course provides an introduction to the California 4-H Youth Development Program, volunteer roles and responsibilities, youth protection requirements, and the policies and practices that help create positive, safe, and welcoming environments for all youth.
Participants will complete the California 4-H Orientation, which introduces the mission of 4-H, volunteer expectations, the University of California 4-H Core Values, and the principles that guide our work with young people and communities. Volunteers will also complete the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) training and the California 4-H 2-Deep Supervision Policy course to better understand their responsibilities for youth safety and well-being.

El Curso para nuevos voluntarios de 4-H de California es una experiencia formativa obligatoria para los adultos que prestan servicio en su primer año como voluntarios de 4-H o que se reincorporan tras una interrupción de un año o más. This series gives you the skills and knowledge needed to handle the financial aspects of 4-H Youth Development Programs. You'll learn about:
Financial management basics
Setting up and authorizing bank accounts
Planning, fundraising, and managing resources
Handling gifts, scholarships, animals, and firearms as gifts
Financial reporting and compliance
Responsibilities of 4-H Unit and VMO Treasurers
Managing excess funds, disbursements, taxes, and property.
This series is designed for California 4-H adult volunteers with financial roles, such as Club Leaders, VMO Treasurers, and Treasurer Advisors.

The Presentation Evaluator Certification course is for adult volunteers and Senior 4-H members who are 16 and older. The goal of the Evaluator Certification is to ensure that presentations are judged fairly and consistently.
This course covers the following topics:
In-depth overview of the presentation program.
Best practices for evaluating presentations.
How to give constructive feedback.
This course will certify you to evaluate presentations at the county, regional and state levels.
for 4-H Adult volunteers ages 18 and up
Adults who work with youth in 4-H can participate in a skills-based training to get certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid. The training teaches adults how to identify, understand and respond to a youth (ages 12-18) who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge.
Youth Mental Health First Aid certification is offered to currently enrolled California 4-H volunteers, both in-person and online via Zoom. See the Mental Health First Aid page to learn more about the certifications and scheduled sessions available through California 4-H.
