We are lucky to live in California! We have many projects that can be held outdoors thanks to our mild climate.
From sports to camping, outdoor projects let you learn out in the diverse California landscape. Check with your county 4-H program to see what's available near you.
Learn the care and maintenance of bicycles, as well as safety practices. May include planning and participating in a bicycle excursion.
Learn how to safely camp in varying terrains. May include an overnight trip.
Only for ages 12 and older.

Explore the outdoor world and learn about the interactions of fish with their habitats, both natural and altered. Learn about freshwater fish species, an animal group that is sometimes overlooked because they are harder to observe in the wild than land animals.

Hiking provides opportunities to be active while spending time in interesting, inspiring, and beautiful landscapes. Youth partner with adult leaders to explore natural landscapes, human impacts on the environment, outdoor safety, and eating healthy in the outdoors.

The California 4-H Shooting Sports Program includes seven different disciplines of shooting sports. All Shooting Sports projects are for 4-H ages 9 and older. Learn more on the Shooting Sports Resource page
Participate in and/or referee any group or individual sport including but not limited to volleyball, softball, soccer, basketball, football, skiing, sailing, roller-skating, and relays. This project can provide you with the opportunity to build athletic skills and group communication.
