We’ve developed SIMMBA — the Smart Infrastructure Mapping, Modular Base and Algorithms platform — a LiDAR-equipped mobility device designed to map sidewalks, curb zones, and active transportation infrastructure with high spatial precision.

Dr. El-Basyouny was selected as a Finalist for the 2024 ASTech Awards in the category of Construction/Smart Cities/Transportation. While he did not take home the award, we would like to congratulate Dr. Simaan AbouRizk on being selected as the Winner of the ASTech Award for Outstanding Innovation in Construction for his work on Bridging Academia and Industry in Construction with Simulation-Based Solutions. Dr. Karim El-Basyouny has been awarded the 2024-25 Killam Annual Professorship. This distinguished recognition is a testament to his outstanding contributions to research and teaching at University of Alberta.
Dr. El-Basyouny's impactful research in urban traffic safety has significantly advanced our understanding of Transportation Engineering, while his commitment to teaching excellence has also enriched the educational experience of countless students.
Honglin (Wade) Jiang M.Sc. Graduation
Honglin successfully defended his thesis titled "Deep Learning-Based Multi-Class Semantic Segmentation and Natural Language Description of Multilane Rural Highways Using LIDAR Data" on Sep 17, 2024.
Amr, Hesham, and Honglin volunteered at the IEEE ITSC 2024 conference, held from September 24-27, 2024.
