Dr. Karim El-Basyouny has been invited to deliver a presentation on road safety by Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC), also known as the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia.
The talk will highlight why this is a particularly thrilling time to be in the area of road safety and the array of opportunities it offers to academics, practitioners and entrepreneurs. Starting with the fundamentals, attendees will understand the importance of transportation safety, how it intersects with other areas, and learn about the concepts of Vision Zero and a Safe Systems approach. We will then cover how increased public awareness and shifting trends like automation, micromobility, ride hailing and car sharing are shaping road safety research. The impacts of technological advancements in video sensors, LiDAR, drones and telecommunications will also be explored.
